Special Trek & Expedition is pleased to present the Jomsom‑Muktinath Trek, a classic Himalaya journey combining dramatic landscapes, spiritual pilgrimage, cultural immersion, and changing elevation and climate zones. This trek moves from the lush lower elevation zones near Pokhara, through arid trans‑Himalayan valleys, up to the sacred temple at Muktinath, returning via scenic mountain villages and finally back to civilisation.
You begin from Kathmandu, transfer to Pokhara, then gradually ascend via Jomsom and Kagbeni towards Muktinath. The route takes you past soaring mountain ridges, desert‑like landscapes, deep river valleys (especially the Kali Gandaki gorge), high passes, apple orchards (in places like Marpha), and of course the religious and mythic aura of Muktinath Temple. Along the way you'll also pass through (or by) hot springs at Tatopani, traditional Thakali and Gurung villages, and get good views of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri ranges.
This trek is of moderate difficulty. You don’t climb extremely high (maximum elevation in your itinerary is around ~3800‑4000m for Muktinath), but the altitude gain, changes in terrain, weather, and long walking days make it physically demanding. Good cardiovascular fitness, previous trekking or walking experience, acclimatisation, and being prepared with gear and mental stamina are important.
Typical trekking time per day is about 5‑6 hours walking, covering around 12‑15 km per day, though this can vary depending on altitude gain, rest stops, trail condition, and weather. You will have rest days or shorter walking days built in, especially when crossing higher altitude zones.
Choosing when to do the Jomsom‑Muktinath Trek is crucial for comfort, safety, and scenic reward. Special Trek & Expedition recommend the following seasons:
