Mera Peak (6,476 m / 21,247 ft) is the highest trekking peak in Nepal, offering one of the most rewarding Himalayan experiences for adventure lovers. Located in the Khumbu region, south of Mount Everest, Mera Peak provides spectacular panoramic views of five of the world’s highest mountains — Everest (8,848m), Lhotse (8,516m), Makalu (8,463m), Cho Oyu (8,201m), and Kanchenjunga (8,586m). The climb offers both a thrilling challenge and a scenic journey through remote Sherpa villages, dense rhododendron forests, glacial valleys, and dramatic mountain landscapes.
Special Trek & Expedition offers a well-structured 17-day itinerary designed for safe acclimatization and a gradual ascent, ensuring both success and enjoyment. The adventure begins with a short, scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, followed by a trek through Chutanga, Thuli Kharka, Kothe, Thangnak, and Khare — the main base for Mera Peak climbing. From the summit, climbers are rewarded with breathtaking 360-degree Himalayan views, making this one of the most scenic peaks in Nepal.
This expedition is ideal for adventure seekers looking to combine an authentic Himalayan trek with a non-technical yet challenging climb.
The best seasons for Mera Peak Climbing are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During these periods, the weather is stable, skies are clear, and mountain visibility is excellent — offering the most reliable conditions for both trekking and climbing. In spring, rhododendron forests come alive with vibrant colors, and the snow conditions are ideal for ascending the glacier. The days are warmer and longer, making this season perfect for climbers seeking beautiful scenery and milder temperatures.
Autumn, on the other hand, follows the summer monsoon, resulting in crisp air and crystal-clear mountain views. The temperatures are cooler, and the trails are generally dry and well-defined. This season is also known for its cultural richness, as local festivals like Dashain and Tihar often coincide with the trekking period, providing travelers an opportunity to experience Nepalese traditions firsthand.
Seasonal Highlights:
Choosing either spring or autumn ensures the safest and most enjoyable experience with the least weather disruptions and the best success rate for reaching the summit.
Mera Peak Climbing is graded as a moderate to challenging climb — suitable for trekkers with previous high-altitude hiking experience but not necessarily technical mountaineering skills. The main challenge lies in the altitude (above 6,000 meters), which requires proper acclimatization, stamina, and mental resilience. The ascent includes trekking through rugged terrain, glaciers, and snow slopes with an angle of around 30–40 degrees. Our expert Sherpa guides from Special Trek & Expedition provide pre-climb training at Khare to help climbers familiarize themselves with equipment like crampons, ice axes, and ropes.
Physically, participants should be fit, with good cardiovascular endurance, as daily treks can last 5–7 hours. Acclimatization days at Thangnak and Khare are crucial to minimize the risk of altitude sickness. Despite being Nepal’s highest trekking peak, Mera Peak is considered achievable for determined beginners under professional guidance.
Transportation:
With proper preparation, physical fitness, and professional support, Mera Peak offers an excellent introduction to Himalayan climbing without extreme technical difficulty.
Throughout the Mera Peak Climbing journey, Special Trek & Expedition ensures that trekkers enjoy comfortable, hygienic, and nourishing meals in both teahouses and tented camps. In the lower regions such as Lukla, Chutanga, and Kothe, accommodation is in cozy mountain lodges offering twin-sharing rooms with basic amenities. As the altitude rises, facilities become more rustic but still provide essential comfort for rest and acclimatization. At Base Camp and High Camp, climbers stay in expedition tents designed for cold and windy conditions.
Meals:
Three nutritious meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are provided daily. Typical Nepali and international dishes include rice, pasta, potatoes, soups, lentils, vegetables, eggs, and noodles. Hot drinks like tea, coffee, and hot chocolate are served regularly to keep you warm and hydrated. At higher camps, our kitchen team prepares high-calorie meals suitable for extreme altitudes, including soups, energy bars, and porridge.
Accommodation Highlights:
This combination of homely hospitality and efficient logistics ensures that trekkers remain healthy, well-fed, and energized for each day’s climb.
To climb Mera Peak, several official permits are required, which Special Trek & Expedition arranges on behalf of all participants to ensure a hassle-free experience.
Required Permits:
All permits contribute to environmental conservation, local development, and safety management in the region. Our company handles every detail — from document processing to payment — so you can focus entirely on your adventure.
Permit Summary:
Obtaining these permits legally ensures your expedition complies with Nepalese regulations and supports local communities and conservation efforts.

This day is reserved for rest and acclimatization to prepare for higher elevations ahead. In the morning, after breakfast, we take a short acclimatization hike to Sabal Tsho Lake and further up to a cairn at 5271m, located on the flank of Kusum Kanguru. The short climb provides excellent panoramic views and helps our bodies adapt to the thin air. After breakfast, we begin our trek from Thangnak to Khare (5045m), which takes about three and a half hours. Mera Peak (6,654m) is classified as a trekking peak, making it a moderate climb suitable even for beginners with good physical fitness. While the ascent is non-technical, climbers must walk on glaciers and use basic mountaineering equipment like crampons, ropes, and ice axes. Special Trek & Expedition provides professional Sherpa guides who train climbers in essential techniques at Khare before the summit attempt. Good acclimatization and a steady pace are key to successfully reaching the summit.
Climbers need to be in excellent physical condition with strong stamina and endurance for long trekking days (5–7 hours daily). Prior trekking experience above 4,000 meters is beneficial but not mandatory. Cardiovascular exercises such as running, cycling, or swimming help prepare for the altitude and demanding terrain. No prior climbing experience is required, as Mera Peak is one of the most suitable Himalayan peaks for first-time climbers. However, you should be familiar with trekking in mountainous regions. Our professional Sherpa team at Special Trek & Expedition conducts a training session at Mera Base Camp, teaching the proper use of crampons, ropes, and ice axes.
